Designed Landscapes as Framework for Interpretation

Digital modeling tools allow us to understand the metrics and ecological performance of damba configurations, but pictorial landscapes allow us to imagine and interpret these landscape from a human perspective.

Designing the damba landscape from both a metrics-based and pictorial perspective allows us to create a landscape imbued with interpretive form. We can use these digital tools to set up ecological conditions along pedestrian paths and viewpoints, creating key moments where differing conditions come into focus.

A former truck route and spillway channel create a moisture gradient to accent the sharp edge between a well-developed bosque and the open water of the river.

Channel + Borrow Pit become a Pocket Wetland

Pockets of topsoil accelerate the development of wetlands near newly established paths.
